We've been retooling Ourmedia quite a bit recently, and we're not done yet. Here's a message I just posted about our renewed mission.

We're reinventing Ourmedia as a community of professional, semi-pro and amateur media makers where you can showcase your best videos and podcasts, regardless of where those files reside.

What's new

Here's some of what's new:

• Profiles & Portfolios: All Ourmedia members now have bigger, better profiles.

Just log in and you'll be on your My Page. Click "my settings" in the top tab. First, scroll down and make sure you have an image or icon you've uploaded -- it'll appear as wide as 300 pixels on some pages, like Ms. Divine, above. (If you don't upload one, a purplish placeholder image will appear.)

Next, while still in my settings, choose the "Producer information" tab, and you'll notice a number of new fields:

- your website
- a short bio
- contact info
- skills or services
- and a Showcase reel.

This info will populate your My Page, all your media pages and your new Portfolio page. (For example, here's my initial Portfolio page, which I'll be adding to shortly.)

• Producers listing: Our new Producers directory showcases all Ourmedia video producers who fill in a bio, skills/services and at least one showcase reel. A "reel" can be any video that shows off your best stuff. By filling in all these fields, you're indicating that you're open to doing some video production.

• Channels: A few months back we introduced Channels. Now anyone can create channels of videos that they've created or spotted elsewhere on the Web. Every Channel carries its own media RSS feed. Here's how Channels work.

Thanks to Outhink Media (here's the announcement of our recent merger) and Markus Sandy in particular for all the development work.

We're still working on improving the site's look (we hope to bring in an experienced designer soon), adding new functionalities, and cleaning up a lot of the glitches here and there on the site. Ourmedia remains free and is here to serve the producer community.

If you'd like to help out in any way, or have any questions please drop us a line. Keep making media!
